  • Began socractic seminar on immigration.
  • Students read too articles, answered questions, and discussed the topic as a class.
  • They will be graded on their discussion, how thoughtfully they answered the questions, and on their reflection of the seminar.

  • Reviewed color.
  • Read the Hungry Catepiller in Spanish.
  • Role played the Mexican War of Independence.
  • Began talking about immigration and took a Citizenship test.

  • TPR--total physical response to Spanish actions
  • Read story from text and answered questions
  • More PQA and another short story told in class.
  • Finished Mini-cuento 2

  • Got books from the library.
  • Got familiar with texts--no writing in them because they will be reused.
  • Complete Mini-cuento one in text.
  • PQA--question and answering in Spanish with cuida, grita, and le pone
  • Students told a short story with me asking it.

  • We also spoke together as a class in Spanish.

  • Review the story by reading it in groups.
  • Review greetings by group writes on board.
  • Review speaking greetings both formally and informally.
  • First quiz!! over greeting and actions and our story this week.
  • We will then draw the story and the students will retell it in their own words with captions.

Monday, Red and Tuesday, White day

  • Discussed field trip opportunity to a Flamenco Ballet in KC in March. There was much interest, so we may need some parent help! We will let you know as it gets closer and if it is approved by the board.
  • The rest of class was spent telling a story all in Spanish. I asked questions and the students gave me the details of the story. We stopped several times throughout the story to make sure everyone was still understanding; it went very well (on the red day--I'm sure white day will too!)
  • Next we wrote the story out together in Spanish. Then students read the story to each other.

  • We will start with some TPR (continuing with the actions from previous days, and we will add abre, and cierra.
  • Next we will continue with greetings--there is a greeting video about an American boy that goes to Mexico and doesn't know Spanish. He meets a girl and she helps him with greetings.
  • Then, last class we didn't get to the story in class, so I am moving that to these days.
  • We will be focusing on toca, mira, habla, saca, corre, camina, and salta.

  • Start with TPR--review of first five (levántense, siéntense, toca, habla, mira) and add (saca, corre, camina, salta, necesito, quiero, tengo)
  • Continue with greetings (¿Cuántos años tienes?, ¿De dónde eres?)
  • Practice with music
  • Choose Spanish names (Practice so everyone knows everyone else)
  • Tell a story
  • Review new terms

Today we will be starting to learn the sounds and different writing characters of the Spanish language.

We will also begin learning some actions and greetings!

Welcome back everyone!! I hope everyone had a great summer vacation!

Just to get back into the swing of things, we have been getting to know one another since the start of school.

We also started with a very little bit of Spanish! More is to come!
